A formal introduction to cylinder inspections: for the user, resort and facility

Most people who use, deal with or handle cylinders are familiar with the rules, laws or practices of inspecting cylinders on some type of schedule. Cylinders, whether they are steel, aluminum or composite, are exposed to harsh environments. They are not transported in protective cases or stored in climate controlled environments, like other sensitive pieces of equipment. They are constantly at risk of being damaged either by use or the elements.

Because cylinders are exposed to user and environmental risks they should be inspected on a regular basis. The inspection ensures the safety of the cylinder and can lead to a much longer service life. This inspection procedure should be conducted by a trained professional, taught through a reputable organization and proper tools should be used during the inspection. If the cylinder passes the inspection, the inspector will apply a sticker stating so and the sticker will help remind people when the next inspection is due.

Cylinder Training Services (CTS) has updated the cylinder Visual Inspection Program (VIP), which is affiliated and distributed by International Training Incorporated (ITI). This VIP program teaches persons who deal with high pressure cylinders how to inspect the cylinder, determine what damage is acceptable and what damage to the cylinder creates a risk. The program goes beyond simply looking at a cylinder. The program reviews corrosion, cracking and storage and discusses ways to extend the service life of a high pressure cylinder. The VIP program makes it beneficial for the student by including the following information; rebuilding the valves, the basic maintenance of compressors and safe filling procedures. All of this is accomplished in a comprehensive one day training program.

Cylinder Training Services upgraded this long running inspection program which was taught by ITI. The ITI VIP program has been taught for 20+ years by over 400 instructors worldwide. This new and updated program is requiring the instructors to review the new material and become current with the new layout, tools and procedures. Cylinder Training Services currently travels the world updating current inspectors and training new instructors and users.

ITI has a reputation for being the industry leader and supporting all instructors no matter their current affiliation. ITI also has a worldwide marketing system, training program liability insurance and is certified through the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This cylinder inspection program teaches useful information to the student, is backed by an international insurance carrier and maintains compliance with ISO. Any student or instructor taking this program can be confident that the materials and procedures are accepted worldwide for following basic safety standards.

Cylinder Training Services does not stop after sharing the knowledge of this VIP program. CTS also carries a wide range of affordable inspection tools and kits. The inspection tools are high quality and affordable. We have taken great measures to ensure that the tools can be stored in tight work spaces, have all the necessary components on hand, and maintain affordability. CTS carries tools for the inspection of all cylinders and the majority of valves.

For any person, resort, group or facility that deals with high pressure cylinders, they should consider taking this new, updated and ISO compliant program. The course is open to all persons. If someone wishes to become an instructor of this worldwide program, all they need to do is contact Cylinder
